The short answer
When its conditions are met, Rift Defense Assist maps eligible left-stick movement to right-stick output while L2/LT and R1/RB are held. It does not read or control an opponent’s decisions.

Defense Assist is a saved toggle. With it off, the handler does not apply this mapping. With it on, the trigger and bumper must meet the specified conditions; ordinary left-stick movement by itself is not enough to identify an active defense routine.
Know the input filter
The source uses a deadzone around the left-stick axes and excludes several busy gameplay paths. It also suppresses the right bumper output during the qualifying handler. Those details matter when comparing raw controller input with what is sent to the game.
Keep the claim about controls
The reference describes a mapping you can inspect. It does not establish a guaranteed steal, block, contest, or defensive win. To understand a game result, record the actual situation and inputs separately from confirming that the enabled routine sends the documented output.
